Did You Know?: Podcasts

without comments

Did you know that you don’t need an iPod in order to listen to podcasts or watch vidcasts?  Recently, I told someone at work that I listen to podcasts, and they said they didn’t, because they don’t own an iPod.  Little did they know that all they needed in most cases is a web browser like Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.  These days, most podcasts can be listened to via a flash player.  You only need a digital audio player if you want to take your downloaded podcasts with you.

If you want to get all geeky and aggregate your podcasts to listen to later or to put on your player, you need some sweet software such as Juice or iTunes.  Then, all you need to do is copy and past podcast RSS feeds you’ll find on podcast websites into your podcast aggregator.  So check out the great list of podcasts over at Digg to find something you’ll enjoy listening to or watching.

Some of the podcasts I listen to include:

1Up Yours
Cranky Geeks
Systm
The 1Up Show
The Skeptics’ Guide To the Universe
Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me
GFW Radio
This Week In Media

Kyle’s Our Whipping Boy

without comments

What is it about Kyle that makes Josh and I want to beat him (verbally) like a rented mule?  Could it be because he’s too easy-going?  Could it be because he’s such a gaming nerd?  Or could it just be that he’s the easiest target to go after and rarely fires back?

Josh worked his fingers to the bone editing last night’s episode of Critical Strike, and it’s been released over at the podcast website.  Although we talked about what we’ve each been up to recently, I neglected to mention that I fixed my Rock Band guitar this past week.  It had been double strumming on the down strum.  Fortunately I found a very good “how to” guide online.  It clearly describes the problem and how to fix it well enough that I was able to make my guitar work like new again.  Thank you, Interwebs!

Our main topic in this episode is DLC.  It was a bit of a last minute throw in.  Otherwise it would have been a rather short episode (the way I prefer them when I’m editing them).  It turned out pretty well, so please go give it a listen.

Critical Strike Episode 26

without comments

Josh and I recorded episode 26 of the Critical Strike podcast last night.  It was so good that I got the editing done after, and we got it released in the wee morning hours today.  In this episode we talked about the lackluster E3 presentations by Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

Kyle couldn’t be with us, because of his missing dongle.  We’ll try to extract his E3 impressions upon our next recording together.  That is, if he ever gets a decent mic.  If not, we’re not inviting him back!  Just kidding.  I can clean up his noisy background if I can clean up mine.

Critical Strike: Episode 20

without comments

It’s another podcast editing Monday morning for me, and it’s going very well.  Josh, Kyle, and I recorded episode 20 last night.  The doubters (Josh) thought we’d never make it to 20, but I think we will make it to at least 100.

All three of us have actually been playing games, giving us lots of stuff to talk about for a change.  I’m about half way into the session, and I’ve done far fewer edits than I normally do.  That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s good, but fewer edits usual equates to the quality of our discussion.  So far, I’m calling this episode solid.

It could be my imagination, but it seems that the three of us insulted each other and argued a bit less than is normal for us, and that’s not a bad thing.

Right now I’m shooting for release of this episode by 11:00 AM (GM-4).  Josh should receive this ep’s Fail Award for excessive shout-outs.
