Why Bike To Work?
Last night at work, I was more than just a little bored, so I started crunching numbers on my gasoline consumption since moving into Defiance proper. The numbers don’t lie. When I was living outside of town, my commute was about 24 miles round trip. Now it’s only about 3 miles round trip. Simple math shows that my commute is now only 1/8 of what it was.
Even though it’s all city miles and my car’s mpg will go down, there’s really not much point to riding my bike to work to save just 3 miles worth of gasoline. Even if my Civic were to get 30 mpg in town, I am only consuming 1/10 of a gallon of gas each day by driving to and from work. By my reconing, it’s not really worth saving myself $0.41 a day by riding my bike instead of driving my car. And that’s without considering the fact that I’d need to buy some lights and toe clips for my bike to ride home in the dark wearing regular street shoes. It’s not really worth it.
Tailgating Jerk
On my way back from the Honda dealership in Bowling Green this morning, there was this guy in an ugly blue Ford Torus behind me. I don't know if he was angry about the color of his car, the fact that it was a Ford, or the 45 mph speed limit due to the construction on State Route 24, but the guy looked like his head was going to explode. He would swerve left of center to see around my HUGE Honda Civic. There was no way he was ever going to get around me AND the 5 semis ahead of me, but he kept creeping over the yellow line, threatening a pass. When he would take a drink of what I can only hope was coffee or a coffee-like substance, he would swerve back in forth within his lane. The guy looked very unstable as I could clearly see his frown in my rear view mirror. He tailgated me all the way from Napoleon to Defiance where I exited. It made me wish I had brought my camera with me. All I was thinking when I got off 24 was that I hoped the guy had a safe trip to wherever he was going…and then got some anger management help.
Forza Motorsport 2 Today?!
If you’re a REAL racing video game fan like me, you probably already know that Forza Motorsport 2 for the Xbox 360 comes out this week. Hell, you probably spent all weekend playing the demo too.
I’ve read conflicting reports of exactly WHEN FM2 goes on sale. One report said that Circuit City will begin selling the game at 2:00pm on Wednesday. A note on Meijers’ website say 5:00pm Wednesday. One game review I read said that the game would go on sale on Tuesday (today). All I know is that I’ll be hitting both Meijers and then Wal-mart in Defiance right after work to see if they are selling my most anticipated video game of the spring/summer.
One cool Forza site I’ve found is ForzaMotorsport.net. There you can log into your Live account and see how your times match up with others on their scoreboards.
You can (and I will be) track the FM2 reviews by checking out GameRankings.com.

“REAL” Racing Starts Sunday
The real racing season, the season that the world will be watching, begins this weekend in Australia where the Formula One circus will be in Melbourne to begin what promises to be one of the most interesting seasons in recent memory.
The legend, Michael Schumacher is gone, 2 time defending world champ, Fernando Alanso switched from constructors champion, Renult, to also-rans McLaren. Kimi Raikkonen switched from McLaren to Ferrari where he will be an instant contender if he can beat his new teammate, Felipe Massa. Giancarlo Fisichella remains at Renult, but will be teamed up with rookie Heikki Kovalainen. Honda's veteran pair of Jensen Button and Rubins Barichello might even play a roll in this year's championship fight.
I can't wait!
