Don’t let the door…
“Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out” is the phrase that comes immediately to mind when thinking about someone kicking out a guest who’s overstayed his welcome. Some people take their frustration and hostility a bit farther, slamming the door for emphasis. And then you have some friends of mine who apparently weren’t content with the above options.
If someone is attempting to throw you out of their house, it’s generally better for you (and for them) if you just acquiesce and leave peacefully. Please don’t stick your foot in the front door, thinking you can persuade them not to toss you out, as it tends to further inflame them, escalating their aggressiveness. You might even find the tosser slamming the door upon your foot so hard as to unhinge the door! You’ll probably find such an outcome humorous, but your laughter will certainly not endear you to the homeowner nor to her mother who will undoubtedly come home to find something looking like a break-in. And you might even hurt your foot in the process.
After work Thursday morning, I re-attached the hinges to my friend’s door while she held her dog at bay. Actually, my friend’s beagle is adorable and just wanted to sniff everything I was handling. Fortunately, the job only took about half an hour, and only took that long because I needed to removed the hinges from the door frame, attach them to the door (with longer screws), then with my friend’s help, re-attach the hinges, and therefore the door, to the frame. After that, I walked home, where I took a much needed shower, then napped for about 6 hours.
