Between Projects Again

without comments

What to do, what to do?  A the moment, I find myself in between projects.  Once I get my sleep cycle back under control, I’ll be needing something else to keep me productively occupied.

Some things I’ve stopped doing or cut back on:  1. Tweeting – Twitter seems pointless to me now as it’s just so much disconnected blather to which no one really listens.  2. Most TV programs I enjoy are in re-runs, and it’s rare that I’ll re-watch episodes I’ve previously viewed.  The handful of programs I’m following this summer include (in no particular order): True Blood, Psychoville, Eureka, Top Gear, and Entourage. 3. Socializing, I don’t do much of that these days.  I’ve pretty much lost all faith in humanity, government, capitalism, and even the tech scene.  When half of the tech news seems to revolve around either Apple or Google, you know that the tech world has run out of ideas. 4. Listening to video game podcasts.  I’m done with them for the time being.  They all pretty much suck in their lazy blandness.

Podcasting, as a project, appears to be off the table since solo podcasts tend to be awful, repetitive, boring, and monotonous.  Besides, I seriously doubt that I’m capable of pulling off a quality podcast by myself.  Unlike some, I enjoy podcasts where people can respectfully disagree and discuss those points of disagreement.  Podcasts where everyone accepts whatever is said uncritically are worse than solo podcasts because they turn people into unthinking agreement-zombies.  I’m not someone who thinks everyone must agree with me, but if you don’t, I’ll want to know the reasoning behind your disagreement.  Also, my last go at podcasting has left a bitter taste in my mouth for working with other people.

Vidcasting…I’ll admit, it has crossed my mind.  I have two digital cameras and a webcam built into my notebook, so it wouldn’t be difficult to vidcast from my couch, splicing in shots of whatever game I’m playing or show I’m watching.  The problem is that I’m far too lazy and not nearly attractive enough for video.  Besides, I would probably get tons of email telling me to show my boobs!  How degrading that would be!

Video gaming has loosened its grip on me.  the monkey, if ever I had one, has definitely hopped off my back.  Bioshock lies unopened upon my desk despite being a game that everyone assures me is quite good.  But I’m all, “meh.”  I guess I’ve grown tired of gaming, all gaming, lately.  Part of it is the load times before being allowed into the action.  Load times are are ridiculous.  Another factor for me is that I don’t believe great games are being made any more.  You give the name of what you think is a great game, and I’ll find flaws with it or explain why it’s not my cup of tea.  Occasionally, the need to play some Rock Band 2 will hit me, but that’s about it as far as my gaming addiction goes.  Perhaps the Beatles Rock Band game will re-spark my interest, but it seems a long way off.

The multitude of toys and gadgets at my disposal conspire to distract me from using any of them to any high proficiency.  It used to not bother me to be a jack of all trades, but to be a master of none feels desperately inadequate and disappointing to me now.  So I need a project, and fast!
