Heath Ledger, Dead at 28
While at work Tuesday night, I got an email from Josh telling me that Heath Ledger had died. I couldn’t for the life of me think of who Heath Ledger even was, much less why I should care. Because of who the news was coming from, I figured Heath Ledger was someone in the gaming world.
Naturally I googled Heath Ledger to find out who this guy was. Apparently he’s a relatively young actor who was playing the Joker in the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Then, IMDB told me that he was also in Brokeback Mountain. I’m pretty sure that were it not for his role in Batman, Heath Ledger’s passing wouldn’t even have shown up on my radar.
About two hours after Josh’s email, Mandi asked me if I had heard that Heath Ledger was dead. That surprised me a little, because I don’t expect most people I work with to follow Hollywood celebrities, especially minor ones who starred in smallish movies like Brokeback Mountain. Mandi told me that the way she had heard it was that one of the guys who was in Brokeback Mountain had died. She was nearly heartbroken because she had thought it was Jake Gyllenhaal. I told her how glad I was that it wasn’t him, because he was great in Donnie Darko. Then I told her she had to see that movie.
So this youngish actor snuffed it in his home in Soho, and I don’t really have an opinion. Many have commented on how sad it is that he died so young. Many wonder why he died. Was it an accidental overdose? I’ve heard that the rolled up $20 bill found on the floor did not have drug residue on it (but who rolls up $20 bills if they aren’t snorting something with it?!). It’s been suggested that maybe Heath Ledger got it right in ending it while still young. I’ve heard people commenting (on podcasts) that they are worried about how his death will affect the upcoming Batman movie which is still in post production. Personally, I don’t think that Heath Ledger’s death is a big deal relative to everything else that’s happening in the world. Remember the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? How many anonymous human beings have to die before the average person takes notice? But let one actor die, and the entertainment world takes pause.
KDE 4.0: A Struggle
I have no clue what I installed, or changed, or uninstalled, but KDE 4.0 is broken on my notebook. I’m in the process of uninstalling it. Then I’ll delete all of the KDE 4.0 configuration files, reboot, then attempt to install the darn GUI all over again.
I’ve not found any help on either the KDE or openSUSE forums yet, so I’m feeling very alone in my problem. Hopefully what I’m doing this morning will fix KDE 4.0, but I’m not holding my breath.
UPDATE:
Uninstalling, deleting config files, and then re-installing did the trick, however, it seems to have re-broke Azureus.
