KDE 4.0 First Impressions
I’ve been using KDE 4.0 for a few hours now. The first thing I’ve noticed is that KDE 4.0 uses substantially less RAM than KDE 3.5 was using on the same machine. What doesn’t work is Amarok2. This isn’t a finished build. It’s pre-alpha. It’s the first application I uninstalled. The desktop looks nice aside from a few icons that were broken (Trash, My Computer, Printer). Another thing I don’t much like is the way Kickoff launches applications. It’s ugly and cumbersome to navigate. Reportedly, there will be a KDE 3.5 style application launcher coming soon.
I’ll post more tomorrow after I’ve had a chance to do some of the more day-to-day things I usually do on my notebook.
